Photo of rocks on the forest floor covered with several types of mosses. the one closest has delicate, branching, and spreading mats that cascade down the face of the rock typical of Feather mosses.
The denser, tufted clumps visible on the top and right of the rock resemble Broom mosses dark green, cushion-like mounds. Some of the brighter green, somewhat irregular mats, particularly toward the bottom are Grass mosses. Some dead leaves are visible on the ground.
The rocks are beyond slow, beyond strong, and yet yielding to a soft green breath as powerful as a glacier, the mosses wearing away their surfaces, grain by grain bringing them slowly back to sand. 💚
