Back to our #JRBPVirtualTour with the #California #scrubjay (#Aphelocoma #californica, a species of scrub jay native to western #NorthAmerica. The #Californiascrubjay is nonmigratory and can be found in urban areas. Scrub jays are not "#bluejays", these a different species.

Day 85 of #JRBPVirtualTour, Hillside #gooseberry (#Ribes #californicum), a #NorthAmerican species of #currant. #Endemic to #California and found in #chaparral and #woodland habitats. Mostly erect #shrub growing to a maximum height around 1.4 m.
Day 84 of #JRBPVirtualtour: The #spiny #redberry, (#Rhamnus #crocea), is a species of plant in the family #Rhamnaceae. #Evergreen shrub, native to #California, used as food by #NativeAmericans. Small bright red berries in fall.
Day 83 of #JRBPVirtualtour! The striped #skunk (#Mephitis #mephitis). We caught a #surfeit of #skunks (yes a group of skunks is called a surfeit!) crossing the causeway. These #polygamous #omnivores possess highly developed, #musk-filled #scentglands to ward off predators.
Day 80 of #JRBPVirtualTour. The #hollyleaved #cherry (#Prunus #ilicifolia)! Native to the #chaparral areas of #coastal #California. An #evergreen shrub to tree, producing edible #cherries, with shiny and spiny toothed leave.
Day 70 of #JRBPVirtualTour! The infamous Pacific #poisonoak (#Toxicodendron #diversilobum), woody #vine or #shrub in the #sumac family, #Anacardiaceae. Common in #mesic #riparian zones to #xeric #chaparral habitats. Leaves are divided in three: “Leaves of Three, Leave Them Be”
