We're in a city, looking across a road to the other side where a narrow pavement runs in front of a wall that's been decorated with street art. The artwork is colourful with some cubist elements in its background that features a ring of geometric shapes reminiscent of the Stargate dialling ring if you're familiar with the TV series or film. Framed in the ring is a cowboy character with wide-brimmed brown hat, a bloodied scarf around the neck, and a bandolier filled with bullets across one shoulder. Most notable is that the cowboy is a skeleton. To the left of view part of a tree on the pavement intrudes. Standing in front of the street art mural there is a woman checking her phone. She's wearing dark trousers and a sporting jacket over a white top with a plastic bag hooked into her elbow while she holds the phone up. Like the figure on the artwork she's also wearing a wide-brimmed hat, although it's white.
Some Lima districts have an abundance of street art and during a walk to Barranco to see some last month we passed by this piece in Miraflores. I hadn't actually noticed the woman standing in front of the skeletal cowboy figure at the time but I like that both […]

We're in a commercial port after sunset looking across a stretch of water to a container ship berthed and being loaded with cargo, framed by the remnants of a sunset in background. It's a dark photo with only a small amount of orange and red glow on the horizon under a deep purple blanket of evening cloud and other lighting being provided by strong port lamps illuminating the dock area behind the heavily-laden ship. The vessel is a long and tall container ship with enough illumination to see it's a deep green colour and has the word "Evergreen" in large white lettering on its side. Seven heavy lifting cranes are lined up behind and over the ship, but only a couple of them have lights on them and the impression that they're in the middle of loading containers. The containers are arranged in seventeen columns of between five and nine containers in height and probably a dozen in depth on the deck. Most of the containers are green with "Evergreen" on them just like the ship but there are other colours present and plenty with no writing at all. A harbour tug boat is angled towards the larger vessel and pushing against it to keep the ship as steady as possible for loading.
Who said commercial docks can't be pretty?
