The macro photograph shows a dark blue, robust beetle with a metallic sheen. Some parts of its carapace have a distinctive texture—they are dotted with tiny pits. The rear section is very large in proportion to the head and has a spindle-like shape. Its segmented legs and long, segmented antennae are visible. The macro photograph shows several bright orange mushrooms growing from the side of a horizontally lying tree trunk. They are shell-shaped and photographed partly from below, revealing gills that fan out from the point where the mushroom grows out of the wood to the edge. The edge of the upper side, which is slightly hairy, is also visible. Behind the mushrooms, you can see a gray sky with blurred tree branches.
Phyllotopsis nidulans is tiny and inedible, but it shines from afar in the gray winter forest. It was one of several species of mushrooms we found during our winter photo shoot in the swamp.
