Lia’s hand on a grey heather cashmere scarf. There are 5 small patches of darned dark grey embroidery thread on two sections of the scarf. Some of the edges are a bit messy but the darning itself is pretty neat.

I got myself a speedweve #darning loom! I probably could have chosen an easier #mending project than a delicate cashmere blend scarf to try it out on but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I still need to work on making neater edges but that’s just practice. #VisibleMending

Finished my first big #handsewing #mending project. I mended a hole, reinforced some weak spots with applique, and shortened the hem. The original hem was destroyed in the back.

Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold. Breakages and repairs are part of the history of an object and must be shown and not hidden. The gold repair makes the object more beautiful for having been broken, the Japanese concept of wabi sabi. Kintsugi is a metaphor for overcoming our worst experiences- we emerge stronger and more beautiful for our scars.

If I can fix or mend something I will. Recently I got this little mending loom that allows me to weave a patch over a hole. I have been having fun figuring it out and now one sock from a pair of hand-knit socks can be put into use again. One more to go.

In the past, I would have thrown this garment away, very sadly, because it had a hole in it. Today, I got out some spare embroidery thread and mended it in ten minutes!

I picked the bright red thread because my mending should be celebrated and noticed! ✨

I wonder if there is a way to save T-shirts or jumpers with bigger holes without them looking too weird afterwards.
I would prefer to do it with guidance first rather than on my own. Any leads appreciated🙏 #mending

—attended a faculty meeting yesterday and completed another round of #mending on this old shirt in good company, while listening to academic reports and voting. It developed a dozen holes in the last wash, so hand washing from now on! Embroidery thread on cotton.
