On #ThisDayInHistory in 2001, the #NEARShoemaker spacecraft settled onto #433Eros, becoming the first human craft to land on an #asteroid as well as the first to enter orbit around one. Eros is a peanut-shaped, ten-mile-wide, rocky, near-Earth asteroid in orbit between us & Mars.
