Roadtrip tomorrow to an all-day #SacredHarp event. Bittersweet for me -- my new work schedule conflicts with our regular local meet-up, so this will be my last time singing #shapenote in a group for a long while.

If you need something to be happy about today and are a #ShapeNote nerd like me, they’re taking War Department out of the new edition of the #SacredHarp.
I (like many #shapenote singers) sing strictly recreationally --though I do get something spiritual out of it, in a way that's hard to define, but notwithstanding -- so I don't mind a little irony; but esp. in the South, there are churches where #SacredHarp singing specifically is an act of devotion
Anyway I can see why it got the chop; O COME AWAY is a great #shapenote tune but not really a #SacredHarp tune conceptually. Though they're synonymous terms for a lot of people, shape note is a (living) composition style, while THE SACRED HARP is first and foremost a worship resource.
