Yes I've read since I've joined the #cdrama world comments that today's general doesn't look as realistic regarding stature anymore as f.e. ML in #TheRebelPrincess
But all newer "historical" i watched had similar types of ML. I agree they get slimmer each year.

☝️ I came here to say this. #TheRebelPrincess has the only - in my viewing experience to date - realistic C-drama battle general in terms of appearance (build, age, scars, etc).
Zhou Yiwei as general Xiao Qi
One that springs to mind is Zhou Yiwei’s general Xiao Qi - he looks robust & fierce in #TheRebelPrincess
I second your recommendation as I loved both S1 and S2!

It was either #TheRiseofthePhoenixes or #TheRebelPrincess, both sumptuous, sweeping historical #cdramas with great casts and leading actors (M&F)
Didn't love the end of tRoP but tRP was swoony. #ZhouYiwei riveting in his perfermance, ZhangZiYi his match in all ways. Loved the strong FLs in both.

My favourite is changes of landscapes/ regions. Generally I prefer open spaces, it gives the characters more space, for horse riding, more liberties, less formal conventions to follow... this I loved about #cdrama like #TheRebelPrincess
