How many times in one book can I allow my heart to be broken? It turns out that the answer is higher than I'll admit. 😭🤧😭 The death of several loved ones is the biggest contributor to my heartache. Still, the love that starts as friendship and morphs over several years between Xander Thompson, Delilah Cross, and Cole Andrews is sweet and innocent, which leads to some excellently steamy times. <blockquote><i><b> “I have to get a mastectomy on Monday. I’m going to have a breast removed before I’ve even gone out on a date. My hair is going to fall out from the chemo and no guy is going to want to date me...if I survive.” </b></i> -- Delilah Cross </blockquote> I love and hate how this ends. I can't think of a way to describe it without saying too much, so if you're curious about it, I'd recommend reading yourself. The narrators, Theo Sinclair, Duncan Prescott, and Marina Barrett, do a wonderful job. I really do wish this was in duet, though. Some crazy shenanigans bring them together again in a very unconventional way. Despite his best efforts, Ethan is a goner, and it's fantastic and fiery! 😆❤️🔥 Even with the losses and upheaval that they experience, I adore how this ends. It's a fitting conclusion. 🩷🥳 This toys with being a dark romance but doesn't really commit to it, in my opinion. Yes, there are some events that cross that line, but I'd classify this as dark-ish. I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Theo Sinclair and Marie Hawkins, are a good combination. I really wish this was done in duet though. 🎧🩷🎧 Story: 4.5 stars Narration: 4 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x H = 30; h = 24
