I’m late to the party, again.

Top Shelf Friday time, what's a comic in your collection that you love? ❤️

I love it when the artist involves the logo. And this issue of X-Men 176 from 1983 by JRJR is a long time favorite.

Let’s see if I have any pics of comics in my phone, since I’m not at home. Oh yeah… maybe these?

#TopShelfFriday, since I'm currently doing my first full watch through of Batman Beyond, here's Batman Beyond #1 (1999), Terry McGinnis' first appearance in comic form!
(Also apparently Six Flags was giving out comic books back in the day lol that's awesome)

Some years ago, Jim Lee was here doing a signing and I took my beat-up copy of X-Men #7 that I bought back in '92 as a 6th grader.

It was the first issue I bought with my own $$$.

Just arrived today, but I’m going to go ahead and give it a #TopShelfFriday rating right off that bat: Nexus #1 from Capital Comics (1983) Now in Color!

I mean look at that beautiful wraparound cover art by Steve Rude!

Who doesn't love a wrap-around cover.

SCREAM issue 9 this time, from May 1984.

For context this is a UK (anthology) comic book.
Roughly A4 sized.

Batman Detective Comics by Mariko Tamaki Ominibus, cover art by Dan Mora

I've been reading this omnibus for several weeks, and it's my #TopShelfFriday. I like how Tamaki writes Huntress, and, as you can see from the cover, Helena is arguably the main character here, or at least as much of a main character as is Batman. The issues drawn by Dan Mora are a special treat.

Photo of comic cover for Uncanny X-Men #23 (1966). Cover says “To save a city!” and “Action lovers! This one’s for you!”

Cover shows X-Men fighting Count Nefaria’s goons: Porcupine, Scarecrow, Eel, Unicorn, Plantman

That is a big book, so awesome. For #TopShelfFriday I’m going with Uncanny X-Men #23. And was so excited to see Porcupine (on the cover) in that therapy episode of She-Hulk show, that was a crazy surprise. Only recognized them from this cover

Since I posted 55 a few weeks ago, another big MCU first appearance: Jim Rhodes in Iron Man 118. I have a graded copy, too, but this is the one I have read and loved.

My pick this week is BRAVE AND THE BOLD #34, the first Silver Age Hawkman & Hawkgirl by Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert. The missing cover piece bothered me, but it graded better than I predicted.

A relatively recent (ECCC '26) acquisition of Amazing Spider-Man #176.
Two things caught my eye when I purchased it: the price is more than fair for a 49 year old book, and God do I really miss when they made the long underwear characters actually look like human beings.

It's also nice to reflect on my old friendship with the Wall Crawler; we had good times together, but he has been dead to me since 2007. You know why.

Alright, real #TopShelfFriday time.

You might wonder why, for someone born at its very end, I'm so fond of the Bronze Age. But be honest, would you be nostalgic for the Clone Saga either?

While there is no connection to the comic, I think of this as the spiritual successor to “The kid who collects Spider-Man” story by Roger Stern.
