Evans is unknown till he boarded the Ocean Monarch from Ireland to Australia in 1856 in green merino dress & long sealskin coat, male clothes beneath. He romanced 3 women aboard, and his trunk was stamped 'Edward De Lacy Evans', sparking rumours he was a man disguised as a woman
