64-bit is #amd64 and could continue a bit longer after 32 bit #x86 support ends.

People ditch old hardware because it glugs power, not because it stops working.

Laptops can use old OS versions that support their legacy apps. But phones, tablets, data centers are all ARM & can emulate Intel well.

#Ubuntu #Ubuntu26.04 will be first #UbuntuLTS released on #RVA23 #RISC-V, so #by_2027 or latest #by_2028 the transition should be largely complete:

Underlying hardware will be #RISC-V so #by_2029 expect #x86 support to end.

It would be unwise to buy any new x86.

CSS, Now It’s Got Your 8086 The modern web browser is now far more than a thing for rendering web pages, it’s a multi-faceted environment that can provide a home for almost any application you could imagine. But why should JavaScript or Wasm have all the fun? CSS is Turing complete now, right? Why not, as [Lyra Rebane] has done, write an 8086 emulator in pure CSS? The web page at the link above may contain an 8086, but missing MMU aside, don’t expect it to run Linux just yet. Instead it has limited resources, just enough to run a demo program. It needs a Chrome-adjacent browser because it uses some CSS functions not available in for example Firefox, but we’ll forgive it that oddity. Its clock is provided by a small piece of JavaScript not because CSS can’t provide one, but because the JS version is more stable. On one hand this is of little practical use, but to dismiss it as such is to entirely miss the point. It’s in the fine spirit of experimentation, and we love it. Perhaps a better way to look at it is to see what could be done more efficiently with the same idea. A 1970s CISC microprocessor might not be the best choice, but would for example a minimalist and optimized RISC design be more capable? We’re looking forward to where others take this thread. Dias atrás e hoje de noite, chegou uma atualização grande do #Windows11. O #VSCode hoje deu erro nas tarefas automáticas dele. Desinstala os drivers #X86 porque o Windows é versão #X64 de #64bits tem dezenas de anos. O driver X86 é #32bits ele foi do Windows 32bits que morreu muitos anos atrás.

Today I saw the new version of Microsoft #Net10, I installed it today, and I noticed that it doesn't automatically uninstall older versions. This causes slowdown problems in #Windows11 and #VSCode. I had to manually uninstall the old #Net, #x86, and #x64 versions on Windows 11.

I noticed that #Windows11 is downloading #X86 updates along with #X64 updates. Windows 11 is an X64 environment, it doesn't need to have X86 drivers on it. X64 drivers work perfectly in X86 applications. I already said this years ago on the Microsoft #Technet forums.

Eu notei que o #Windows11 está fazendo o download de atualizações #X86 junto com #X64. OWindows 11 é um ambiente X64, não precisa ter drivers X86 nele. Os drivers X64 funcionam nos aplicativos X86 perfeitamente. Isso eu já disse anos atrás nos fórums do Microsoft #Technet.
