Day 21 of #libellente is Southern Emerald #damselfy, a species which breeds at very few sites in the UK and has an annoying preference for habitats that don't have public access. Most people go to a ditch in Canvey Island if they want to see it here. #invertebrates

I'd been hoping the Azure damselfly was going to land for a photo, but this wasn't what I'd anticipated! It flew into the web of a Long-jawed Orb-weaver spider (Tetragnatha species). The spider seemed to be upon it almost immediately. Magor Marsh (Gwent WT), 24 May 2025. #damselfy #ukwildlife
