Maranatha Crane's name is an homage to Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." "Ichabod" means "No glory" or "The glory has departed" in Hebrew, referring to the capturing of the Ark of the Covenant in 1 Samuel 4:21. It is an expression of lament, and was partly chosen by Irving for his protagonist in reference to Ichabod's disgrace and departure at the story's conclusion. "Maranatha" is Aramaic for "Our Lord, come!" or "Our Lord has come," referring to the Second Coming of Christ in 1 Corinthians 16:22. It is an expression of victory, and I chose it to signify Maranatha's relentlessness against the Dullahan (her "Headless Horseman") and other unfeelie Fae.
Two different versions of Maranatha (the Warrior and the Writer) cross paths in "Summer's End V."
