Can’t remember if I posted about this but my last inspection of winter sowing jugs outside on 4/3 yielded ~15 more varieties so now we are at 40+ of 109 species germinated. Especially excited to see some #MilkweedForMonarchs & other #NativePlants surfacing finally.

Here comes the later bloomer in the color mix of Tulipa greigii that lines the Parkway. These have been performing like rockstars every year since I planted them fall 2021. Absolute perennializing dream!

Cream and butter streaked blooms with no really cup shape remaining as they just keep doing whatever they feel like because they can.
Behind the weird tulips, a bountiful spreading clump of delicate sunshine yellow daffodils.
In contrast to beautiful perennalizing tulips I shared, here are “freaks & geeks” remains of Double Early ‘Exotic Emperor’, also planted in 2021, since I don’t give special treatment or fertilizer. Mix in fine with these petite Daffodils though.

Burgundy finely cut foliage with yellow green stems emerges from woody stems eventually becoming a chartreuse foliage ‘Lemony Lace’ Elderberry that fades to green later in summer and has fall colors too. Plus flowering buds and fruit, though the birds usually come for the buds long before we get fruit.

A cluster of numerous pristine creamy white tulip buds holding closed in the downpour conditions.
Rainy day has settled in my winter sowing poppy seedlings that I planted yesterday enough to hide the disturbed soil from the squirrels hopefully (🤞). It has also brought these beautiful cream-colored Tulipa greigii up overnight.

All the rain lately has kept the seedlings happy and moist so much that you can see the condensation inside. 2 small containers each of 2 varieties.
Thick little babies peeking out through the center of the front container as you look down on the group.
Jugs open, you can see all the happy babies with their first few true leaves starting to show the little spiky bits next to a par of garden gloves and a spade.
Today’s #AlwaysBePlanting report: Some adorable baby #WinterSowing ‘Drama Queen’ & ‘Black Beauty’ poppy seedlings. Yes, they go out this small because the roots already almost reach the bottom of the 4 inches of soil and they don’t like being manhandled.

A beautiful peachy bloom swiped with pink and set off by a dramatic deep burgundy to red eye surrounding yellow carpels.
I have been saving this one as a special #FlowersOnFriday treat because it is 1st bloom after planting 2 years ago and it took my breath away. It almost looks like Itoh peony coloring but it’s a single perfect Hellebore flower.

Beautiful opposite ladder-like arcs of leaves bend with heavy clusters of slightly fuzzy buds with only a hint of blue-purple showing at the tips.
