Thunbergia mysorensis is blooming again! For some odd reason it only puts out flowers from way down low, so I find them draped over or hiding between the pots rather than hanging from the vines that are right in my face…

Upper and lower pitchers on #nepenthes alata “Flames of Apo”
True alata are winged, fuzzy plants with a distinctive bulbous base.

Variation in Nepenthes Rokko “Exotica” x palawanensis. Uniform coloration and thick peristomes seem to be standard.

Am I finally succeeding with Nepenthes campanulata? Seems to like a pinch of shade interestingly…but that’s the best pitcher I’ve yet seen. Classic upside down bell shape.

Nepenthes ramispina x truncata, a large and slender but very dark brown/purple pitcher, and robcantleyi x (aristolochioides x spectabilis), smaller but fatter and more mottled-striped with green, red, and purple

Nepenthes bellii x robcantleyi bouncing back rapidly after the repot. It’s yet to flower, but it makes a lot of big chunky traps. Didn’t inherit the dark color of rob sadly, but the contrast of lime green peristome and purple is attractive

New video on the YouTube channel, a visit to the Mammoth Cave area...unfortunately cave not entered due to government stupidity, but the are did give a new salamander species!

Five-petaled flower with two smaller top petals, median side, and a longer notch-tipped bottom petal, all white-lavender etched with bleeding veins of violet, and dark electric violet spots surrounding the white throat
Pinguicula emarginata x sp. Tonala “ANPA A” HC A
Still propagating this one but a couple of its siblings are available in the Shop.

Tiny white violet flower with two large upper petals and three small lower, the middle lower lined with violet veins
It’s that time of year: the pitcher pool is beginning to fill with bog violet blooms! I probably have hundreds of them out there (and they’re always sprouting more from seeds every spring) so given another couple weeks and it’ll be a violet carpet.

When it comes to simple hybrids, it’s hard to beat the spectacular and easy nature of Nepenthes ventricosa x spectabilis. Chunky, flared peristomes, and bright reds that quickly age to this deep purple and black.

New video on the YouTube! Midweek plant highlight, this time on Drosera menziesii, a tuberous species that's also beginner friendly!

Which do you prefer, lighter and multicolor stripes, or dark and chocolate-red?
Both are sibling Nepenthes (veitchii x burbidgeae) x stenophylla I got as freebies a while back, that just got a much-needed pot upgrade.

It's #nationalcoyoteday, and naturally with our mascot being one we have to share on them! These Wind Cave yotes are a perfect example of the species, an animal persecuted by many but deserving respect more so.

The fattest Nepenthes rafflesiana that ever did live…or possibly just introgressed with ampullaria. Its siblings are all more or less normal raff though, with similar coloring…

We're back to the Midwest trip again, the second day...while a snake did manage to make it into this vid, it's the salamanders that steal the spotlight. Two brand new, chunky lifer species in fact! youtu.be/bVIGU6wZw-w

The heat wave may not be great for stuff outdoors right now…but it is great for letting tropical snakes get some outside time. Although Callie wasn’t quite sure if she wanted to leave the safety of my vicinity.

A cylindrical inch tall pitcher with mottled maroon colors, hairy fringed wings down the front, and a teardrop shaped slanted mouth ringed by a thin peristome with pronounced ribs; the interior is purple.
This little Nepenthes nigra has been behaving like a dwarf for some time now but still making toothy dark pitchers. Once it’s lifted up in better soil and not shaded out by vines soon to be chopped I expect it will get far darker again too

Drosera anglica “British Columbia” is flowering again!
For some reason the temperate versions have been a bit more reluctant to bloom for me but this form seems a bit more willing.

One of the Drosera auriculata in bloom. Will it set seeds this time? Unsure, this particular one doesn’t seem very willing to do so…but since it grew with no issues and no burned shoot tips I have high hopes for daughter tubers at least.

Another highlight today: Drosera gigantea! It earns its name when mature, making many-branching almost treelike growth exceeding 3 feet tall, and inch-plus tubers that can be nearly 3 feet below ground to avoid desiccating.

The red blush and white-flower forms of Pinguicula gigantea bloomed simultaneously again!
The flowers may have been butchered after this photo…but in the service of crossing them and also putting pollen on several other things at the same time
