You′ve got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you′re miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boys, you've got a friend in me
Yeah, you've got a friend in me!

Some seem to be really old and even decomposed. The smell of that pile must be awful! 😷
This photograph captures a striking architectural dialogue between two eras. The foreground is dominated by a steep-gabled red brick villa, likely from the Gründerzeit or early 20th century, its deep burgundy clinker brick patinated with age and threaded with climbing vines. The sharply pointed triangular gable and small inset window are hallmarks of late Historicist residential design. Peeking from behind, a modern apartment building offers a near-perfect contrast: smooth yellow-ochre rendered façade, flat surfaces, and clean rectangular balconies typical of pre-reunification infill construction. The chromatic and textural opposition, dark rough brick versus pale smooth plaster, makes the generational gap impossible to ignore. Bare-branched trees, dark rhododendron, and white-blossoming spring shrubs frame both buildings, softening the boundary between old and new beneath a bright April sky, a quiet but eloquent study in Potsdam’s layered architectural history.

Golden sunset over Lough Foyle, with a band of warm orange light reflecting across calm water beneath a dramatic sky of thick, textured clouds. In the foreground, tall coastal grasses and seed heads sway in silhouette, framing distant rolling hills of Donegal along the horizon.

Photograph taken of the inner courtyard of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. It's a whopper of a house, owned by the Duke of Devonshire. Although I adore visiting these amazing places, am quite uncomfortable by the lavish wealth some people reside in through an accident of birth. Now I've got that out of the way, onto the photograph! Image shows a facade of one of the four inner courtyard walls. It was taken from a corridor outside the chapel inside the house. There are three sets of four tall rectangular windows across three storeys. Each window is made of four x seven glass panes with gold edge between each, except the lowest row which is four x six. The top windows have a fancy stone mini balcony, bit like the pointless Juilet balconies on new build apartments, but fancy. The facade is stone and features the usual Italianate features of pediments (like decorative hats), cornice (patterned horizontal stone strips where you'd find a plastic gutter on a terraced house) and beams (flat stone horizontal strips between storeys). All the window frames are gold and shine in the sunshine. There are three long thing stone reliefs between the middle floor windows featuring a tangled mass of faces, plants, drums and other things not clear enough on the image to see. Blue sky overhead and a flat slab stone courtyard floor below. I could probably write four pages of descriptions but won't bore you further. In summary, it's stone, symmetrical, has fancy twiddles here and there, and big windows in gold frames.

It’s a palace rather than a house, I take from your description. Have a great day, Anna! 😀🌞
I was on the other side of the canal (in the foreground) on an equally narrow stretch, busy keeping my balance. The stormy wind made more noise than I could have shouting. And I remembered my manners, oddly enough. 😂
Good morning Alan, fantastic atmosphere. Just did what you suggested and spent some time taking photos of a brilliant blue sky and spring flowers. There’s nothing better to ease one’s heart than doing what you love. Have a wonderful day! 🌞🫶
Thank you, Graham. Hope you’ve got some rest meanwhile.
Cherry blossom branch in full bloom against a clear, vibrant blue sky. The delicate white flowers feature thin yellowish-green stamens and are clustered together on a dark brown wooden branch. Some small green buds and young leaves are also visible among the blossoms.

I like putting things together... (Maybe I should have continued working as a carpenter after all, and not just done the apprenticeship...)
I saw this one in a bookstore

Looks awesome! 🤩
Part of Gilbert White’s House is a museum for various expeditions and in particular the Antarctic Expedition of 1910-1912. Cot. Oates walked into a blizzard and never returned. He was slowing them down on their return journey from the South Pole as he had frostbite and gangrene and it is thought he sacrificed himself for the expedition of Captain Scott.

That’s just what I did without telling anyone though, wanted to pick up something at the pharmacy quickly and couldn’t stop taking photos of magnolia. 😀
Colourful pink spring blossom from our city park
Fabulous, Paul, still waiting for the cherries to open.
A minimalist close-up photograph of a harlequin flower (Sparaxis tricolor). The striking, funnel-shaped flowers are tricoloured. The petals are bright red, with a yellow centre bordered by a black ring. The flower stands out on the right side of the frame; the background is light grey.
Have a wonderful day 🫶

That’s a wonderful beauty and fantastic color, Rina! 👌
Good morning JB, have a fabulous day too. 😀🌞💛
Awesome!
Two French bulldogs stand on a sunlit stone pavement. The front dog, a tan/fawn colour with a dark muzzle, wears bright red boxing gloves on both front paws and looks forward with a serious expression. Behind it, a lighter cream-colored bulldog sticks out its tongue. Long shadows stretch across the walkway, with a metal railing and a patch of green grass visible in the background.

A knock out! 😂😅
A bumblebee hovers beside a cluster of purple lavender flowers, wearing a jewelled golden crown and holding an ornate golden staff like a royal figure, against a softly blurred green background.

To you too, Soph!
Taken around 5:00 AM this morning, the photo captures the pre-dawn blue hour over a Brandenburg woodland edge, with the sky flowing from deep indigo at the top through teal into a warm amber-orange glow at the horizon. The treeline is rendered in pure black silhouette, mixing tall conifers on the right with bare deciduous trees and the graceful drooping form of a birch tree catching the first of the warm light. The exposure is just right, sky detail preserved, foreground fully dark, giving the image a mood of quiet stillness just before the world wakes.
Blue hour Wednesday greetings.Good morning everyone, have a wonderful day ahead.

Two hammocks claim one of the most audacious sleeping spots on the Schwielowsee, a really thin finger of land jutting into the lake, barely wide enough to stand on, with dark water pressing in from both sides. There is almost no “land” here in any conventional sense, just a narrow, root-tangled strip where tall trees have stubbornly held their ground against the encroaching water. One hammock burns a vivid signal-red against the gloom; the other hangs quieter in dark green alongside it. No flat ground, no comfortable clearing, the choice of place is the statement. To the left, the open lake stretches away in choppy, wind-driven waves beneath a heavy steel-grey sky, while hills cloaked in bare deciduous forest rise on the far shore. The trees overhead are mostly skeletal, their upper branches reaching into the overcast, as ivy and stubborn greenery cling to the lower trunks. Fallen branches and driftwood litter the narrow shore, a place not often visited by anyone who intends to stay. And yet here they are. When the Rolling Stones released Let’s Spend the Night Together in 1967, Jagger was forced to soften the lyric on live television, famously rolling his eyes as he did it. That same spirit of cheerful defiance is written all over this campsite. The red hammock glows like a small ember in the grey: a tiny, warm declaration of presence against a vast and indifferent landscape.
Let’s spend the night together 🎶
