A mass of new growth rises from the soil and brown stems from last year's plant. One toothed and hairy leaflet has unfurled while the remainder are still mostly closed. The foliage appears mostly red though some pale green is visible at the surface of the soil
Garden check from two days ago:
The thimbleweed that I planted last year is emerging, looking reddish compared to the bright green foliage of the nearby snowdrops and tulips that the squirrels "planted"

Our picture shows a small, square window set into a plain, dark grey wall. The wall is smooth but slightly weathered, with faint vertical cracks and subtle texture.
