Adding a little zest to your day with the lemon jelly—Aegina citrea. 🍋

The lemon jelly is different from other jellyfish because it has only four tentacles extending from its bell. Although jellies in the genus Aegina are relatively well known, they can evolve unusual forms or colors in deep water.

On #WorldWetlandDay, wetlands buffer aquatic ecosystems from pesticide runoff, exceeding planetary boundaries. Toxic chemicals harm rivers and seas via rain, groundwater, and drift—dilution won't fix it. Plants trap sediment; microbes degrade pollutants. Protect wetlands to save downstream ecology.

Another view of this impressive event which is not yet over - we are still above the M5 threshold over one hour in with multiple peaks over X-class. The largest flare was an X8.1 - one of the strongest flare intensities in 20 years and the strongest of this solar cycle.

This is a quite impressive model from NASA for the X1.9 CME, but it is a preliminary estimate which may be refined. The CME transit time is less than two days!

Impact may occur around 3 UT on Jan 20. I don't want to speculate on geomagnetic storm strength, but G2-G3 seems possible.

🌍🌱🦠🧪🔭🪐 It is daunting how little we know about ecosystems, and how much research (and its funding) we need before being able to build ecosystems that function predictably... and even more to make them sustain human life.
