A stunning false-color Hubble Space Telescope image of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 3079 in Ursa Major. The galaxy's disk, composed of star clusters and dust lanes, spans 70,000 light-years. A close-up inset reveals towering gas pillars (2,000 light-years high) emanating from a galactic core, possibly due to massive star winds.

A single shot (not stacked) image of the galactic core of the Milky Way rising in the east out of the Pacific Ocean as seen from down on the South Otago coast. I was photographing a monster aurora in the southern sky all night when I noticed the galactic core rising. So repositioned & took this. You can see there's a lot of ambient light in the shot cause by a lot of sea haze about. Warm orange & rich dark black image with billions of stars
