8.4.1945: Massaker von Celle Kurz vor Ende des Krieges in Europa, die alliierten Truppen sind nur Tage entfernt, werden kurz vor knapp noch unsägliche Verbrechen begangen. Aus einem durch Luftangriffe beschädigten Zug entfliehen im niedersächsischen Celle KZ- Häftlinge. In der Zeit vom 8.-10. April 1945 führen SS und Wehrmacht eine großangelegte Suche in Celle und Umgebung durch. Mindestens 170 (wahrscheinlich eher 200-300) Häftlinge werden erschlagen und erschossen. Auffallend: zahlreiche Celler Bürger beteiligen sich freiwillig an Suche und Mord. Am 12.4.45 wird die Stadt von britischen Truppen besetzt. Von April bis Mai 1948 wird der Fall vor einem Militärtribunal verhandelt in einem der ersten Nachkriegsprozesse wg. NS- Verbrechen. Die Frage stellt sich: Warum haben sich insbesondere Zivilisten freiwillig (!) an der Jagd auf die KZ-Häftlinge beteiligt und an den Morden? Das Ende war abzusehen. Es war klar: in wenigen Tagen kommen die Alliierten, dann wird Celle besetzt. Es gab die Möglichkeit sich zu entscheiden zu töten, oder sich herauszuhalten. Nicht einmal Aufbegehren war nötig, einfach nur die Entscheidung, sich nicht freiwillig zu melden und zu töten. Die Beteiligten entschieden sich für das Töten. Warum? Es gab die Gelegenheit! Unter dem NS war eine Strafe nicht zu befürchten. Unter den Alliierten würde man keine Gelegenheit mehr haben. Also schnell noch mal raus und töten. Was sagt das über Menschen aus?
