Montreal, May 19th, 2025t - The RAPLIQ (Regroupement des activistes pour l’inclusion au Québec) strongly condemns the comments made this week by Luc Ferrandez and Nathalie Normandeau on 98.5 FM. By suggesting euthanasia as a “solution” to the tragic case of Florence—a young woman with an intellectual disability who was imprisoned due to a lack of appropriate resources—these former public officials crossed a red line.
Instead of calling for care, support, or concrete solutions, they implied that a “gentle death” might relieve society.
“This is not an opinion; it is dehumanization, a slippery slope, with disturbing eugenic undertones, that denies the dignity of disabled people.,” said Steven Laperrière, General manager of RAPLIQ.
RAPLIQ reminds the public that disability is an integral part of the human condition. To consider the disappearance of certain individuals due to lack of services is to abandon our shared humanity.
We categorically reject the normalization of such ideas in the public sphere.
We affirm that every life deserves to be supported, respected, and loved—regardless of ability.
