A male Apistogramma borelli showing off its metallic blue scales and yellow fins
The same male a few seconds later, suddenly showing a black stripes and markings.
Another addition that happened kind of spontaneously was this absolutely stunning Apistogramma borrelli ‚Opal‘ that the breeder I got the corys from had as well. I‘m amazed by how quickly it can change its color!

Collecting the eggs is a total crapshoot though. I already collected plants one too early this season. Its better to wait to see the male fanning some part of his nest.

The left male briefly got one. Mating is definitely starting this Easter Weekend!
They'll this a bunch more. Eventually the male will take the eggs and spew it in his nest area and then guard and fan the eggs. I know this because these flag fish are all my babies!

My Florida Flag Fish males figured out its spring time - mating season! The 2 most dominant males are now guarding spots on opposite ends on top. The third big male is being chased away but is still pursuing females.
Hopefully all the males survive. They dont in smaller populations.

A pretty blue and black fish (betta splendens) in a small aquarium, with plants, dead leaves and timber providing habitat.
So... bit of an upgrade to the new nano #aquarium tonight. I made a lil cave for the pygmy cories to hide in, and while i was at the shop picking up rock for that, i discovered they had hand-reared bettas that were pretty cool with other fish.
