21.6.1933: Beginn der "Köpenicker Blutwoche" Im Berliner Stadtteil Köpenick geht die Köpenicker SA-Stan- darte 15 unter Leitung von SA--Sturmbannführer Herbert Gehrke gegen die Gegner des Nationalsozialismus vor. Die Aktion ist Teil des seit der sog. "Machtergreifung" durch die NSDAP gegen Sozialdemokraten, Kommunisten und Juden verübten Terror. Bei der Aktion in Köpenick werden bis zum 26.6.1933 um die 500 Personen gefangen genommen, gedemütigt und gefoltert. Opfer sind Mitglieder von KPD, SPD, Reichsbanner, des Deutschnationalen Kampfringes, Juden, Gewerkschafter und Parteilose, unter ihnen bekannte Vertreter wie der ehem. Ministerpräsident von Mecklenburg Schwerin Johann Stelling (SPD), Reichsbannerführer Paul von Essen und viele Prominente mehr. Ein Teil von ihnen wird ermordet, erliegt den Folgen der Folterung. Die Anga- ben über die Zahl der Todesopfer schwankt zwischen 24 und 91. Die Leichen der Opfer gelangen nur zum Teil in das Leichenschauhaus in der Hannoverschen Straße, wo sie do kumentarisch erfasst werden. Andere Leichen werden in Säcken verschnürt in umliegende Gewässer geworfen oder im Wald aufgehängt.
Zahlreiche Überlebende tragen dauerhafte körperliche und psychische Schäden davon. Nach Kriegsende wird den Tätern der Prozess gemacht. Der erste Prozess findet im Juni 1947 vor der 1. Großen Strafkammer in Berlin-Moabit statt, der letzte im Sommer 1950 vor dem Landgericht Berlin in Ost-Berlin. Es werden mehrjährige Haftstrafen, lebenslängliche Haftstrafen und 15 Todesstrafen verhängt. 22 verurteilte Täter, unter ihnen neun zum Tode Verurteilte, entziehen sich der Strafe durch Flucht in die Bundesrepublik, die eine Auslieferung an die ostdeutschen Behörden verweigert.
