Perpetual Motion by Graeme Gibson is a historical novel with contemporary relevance in its eloquent plea for humans to take care of nature. Gritty, earthy, comic and dark. Set in 19th-century Ontario. Too bad the library stuck the bar code on the perfect cover image.

I enjoyed this packed memoir. Atwood skilfully weaves vignettes from her life with insights on her writing. Evocative portrayal of the birth of CanLit in the 1960s, among much more.

This well written novel has everything: Chinese communist struggle sessions, classical music, Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution, the love of family, and so much more. A dense and fascinated read. #GGBooks. I listened to Bach’s Goldberg Variations as I read.
