Las adaptaciones morfológicas de P. thysi, tanto externas como internas, muestran diferencias significativas respecto a especies cercanas como Kneria stappersii, lo que les permite soportar la corriente y adherirse a superficies húmedas, aunque los individuos más grandes pierden capacidad para escalar debido al aumento de peso. Este hallazgo contribuye a comprender la biodiversidad de la región y los desafíos ecológicos que enfrenta el río Luvilombo, que sufre desecación estacional debido a la extracción de agua para riego agrícola, afectando la continuidad ecológica del ecosistema.
