Screenshot of the “JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis – 2024 Edition” webpage. A blue header spans the top with the title and a search box; a left sidebar lists sections (Table of Contents, Contributors, and chapters on systematic review methods), while the main panel shows a “Welcome to the new edition…” introduction with paragraphs of text and two small preview images on the right. Text reads: Welcome to the new edition of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis. This manual guides authors who wish to conduct systematic and scoping reviews following JBI methodologies. Each chapter is devoted to the synthesis of different types of evidence to address different types of clinical and policy-related questions. JBI is an international evidence-based healthcare organisation that works with 90+ Universities, Health Facilities and NGOs (known as the JBI Collaboration) worldwide. The organisation focuses on improving health outcomes globally by producing and disseminating research evidence, software, training, resources and publications relating to evidence-based healthcare. JBI and its Collaborating Entities promote and support the synthesis, transfer and implementation of evidence by identifying feasible, appropriate, meaningful and effective healthcare practices to assist in the improvement of healthcare outcomes globally. One of our strengths is in the conduct of systematic reviews that reflect a broad, inclusive approach to evidence and accommodate a range of diverse questions and study designs. The first three editions of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis were published in book format. Since 2017 subsequent editions have been published online. This Manual is presented in an online wiki format to facilitate rapid inclusion of developments and updates to JBI methodologies and methods for evidence synthesis. A PDF version of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis is available to download
JBI’s methodological guidance for scoping reviews and diverse types of systematic reviews is provided in the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis: bit.ly/4bnCXtL
The Manual includes links to the 3 external methodologies, and a chapter on methodological considerations.

Methodology Month with JBI logo. The JBI logo is white against a dark blue background. The JBI logo depicts a pebble (‘evidence’) dropping into water, symbolising the ripple effect of positive change driven by evidence. The dark blue background rounded blue banner, set against a dark blue background with shows abstract connected lines and nodes in a lighter shade of blue, and also a deep red. The abstract design represents diverse methodologies grounded in shared principles, forming clear, systematic pathways that guide users step by step to rigorous, transparent, and trustworthy evidence syntheses.
#JBIMethodology Month champions rigorous, diverse methodologies. Because not all healthcare questions are about effectiveness, and different types of evidence need different approaches. Find guidance for conducting robust, trustworthy systematic reviews: synthesismanual.jbi.global

The JBI Model of EBHC is circular representing evidence-based healthcare (EBHC) as a cyclical process. The wedges (Global Health, Evidence Generation, Evidence Synthesis, Evidence Transfer, and Evidence Implementation) provide JBI's conceptualisation of the steps involved in the process of achieving an evidence-based approach to clinical decision-making. Arrows indicate flow can be bi-directional. Outer wedges operationalise the Model's component parts to articulate how they might be actioned in a pragmatic way. At its core is considering feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness and effectiveness. This is represented by the words: Feasible, Appropriate, Meaningful, Effective at the centre, or very heart, of the JBI Model of Evidence-based Healthcare.
#JBIMethodology is underpinned by JBI’s unique approach to #EBHC
We consider evidence-based healthcare as decision-making that considers Feasibility, Appropriateness, Meaningfulness as well as Effectiveness of healthcare practices #ThinkFAME
