Some effects are so good it is worth the risk that nobody is playing the color, because when someone is the card is soooo powerful. Take Insight as an example; watching your opponents ramp or drop mana dorks feels way better when you draw a card every single time.

Sleepers of Alara Reborn week: Five mana is a lot, but Predatory Advantage could conceivably make you 3 2/2 green lizards in a single trip around the board. Coupled with any kind of tax effects and it gets real consistent , real fast.
