The photo is a close up of a rocky beach completely filled with smooth-edged stones of varying shades of grey, some brown. At the bottom of the photo is a driftwood, multi-branched twig.
In the middle of the image is a single, sun-bleached, seal vertebrae. The angle of the vertebrae was such that the empty canals through which the spinal cord and blood vessels pass appear as a smiling face.
Not gruesome but - in the moment - for me, it was a reminder that there is a natural circle of life. And that’s okay.
This cheerful-looking ‘face’ took me by surprise while #beachcombing in #Norfolk #England.
