Harlow Donne has devoted his life to the Classical world. When a chance comes up to study an obscure collection of papyrus fragments at Oxford University, he seizes it. Though it means leaving his daughter and fracturing marriage back home in Canada, this is the kind of career break he desperately needs.

In the depths of the Bodleian Library, Harlow discovers a lost account of the Trojan War, a glimpse into the founding of Western civilization itself. He names the epic poem The Psoad, after its protagonist, a Greek commoner identified as Psoas of Midea, but known to all as son of nobody.

As sole translator and interpreter of The Psoad, Harlow dedicates the poem and its footnotes to his daughter, Helen. Under his gaze, the text unlocks echoes of Ancient Greece into the present day, and a personal message to his beloved child appears. Despite the two-thousand-year gap between the two, a thread hasn’t frayed: the universal song of homesickness and regret, of ambition, love, and grief.

In this masterpiece of myth, history, and domesticity, Son of Nobody explores how stories become facts, the price we pay to share them, and how we live—then, now, and always.

I donated fourteen boxes of books last Saturday that I'd been saving for a future version of myself where I'd finally have time to read them all — and letting them go felt less like loss and more like admitting the truth about who I actually became versus who I planned to be Fourteen boxes of books sat in my spare room for years, each one a promise I made to someone I never became.

Sometimes you just gotta #clean - and share!

Today's #library30 Photo Challenge prompt is "rare and unusual" and I think this Galileo manuscript from the 17th century definitely qualifies. My library doesn't own this item, but one of the grants I help administer helped conserve it. lnkd.in/gtiM4eHW #library #libraries #skybrarians

HOW to request my and other authors’ books for your libraries

HOW to request my and other authors’ books for your libraries @clarislamauthor

Here’s how:
Literally, just request them to do so.
Many libraries have “purchase suggestion pages” or a labelled equivalent on their websites where library patrons can fill out requests for which books they want to see in their libraries.

Here’s how: Literally, just request them to do so. Many libraries have “purchase suggestion pages” or a labelled equivalent on their websites where library patrons can fill out requests for which books they want to see in their libraries.

Important notes:
Just because you requested libraries to carry specific books doesn’t mean they’re immediately obligated to purchase EVERY book you request. This could be due to many factors, but a main reason is the library’s budget (especially when requesting ebooks for their ebook catalogues because those are INCREDIBLY pricey).
Also, in my experience with requesting books, they're less likely to take on books by self-published authors. However, it's still worth a try - especially if it’s popular enough!

Library staff in general are grossly underpaid & often treated like crap (ask me how I know). CML needs to stop fighting their staff's attempts to unionize---I hope the public stands behind the staff who make the library work. Solidarity from SEIU 1199 💪 #libraries
