Catching up on Rumiko Takahashi’s #MAO manga. This series is definitely more similar to Mermaid Saga in concept. Not just because Mao and Nanoka are similar to Yūta and Mana as characters, but even the stories are similar to the Mermaid anthology. I like it.

A perfectly acceptable start. I'm not the biggest rumiko takashi fan historically but I haven't engaged with anything she's done more recent than inuyasha so I must admit I'm curious. I was figuring out plot beats before they happened in a way that felt satisfying.

I've not been a fan of Takahashi's work so far (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2) but I hope that I'll like Mao more since it looks more serious. The episode itself was slow, but decent aside from that. The smoothie gag was a good way to start the episode. Interesting setup for overarching plots.
