Prohibition had been imposed 13 years earlier – and it had not been repealed yet. But it had become clear that the ban on alcohol was a failure. Americans could – and did – get alcohol, and every purchase put more money in the hands of organized criminals, who did not pay taxes. So, federal lawmakers approved legislation permitting brewers to make beer – so long as it had no more than 3.2 percent alcohol. Since 1933, April 7th has been celebrated in the U.S. as National Beer Day.

Prohibition is a strange concept in this day and age, but on April 6th, 1933, people lined up, waiting to buy their first legal beer on April 7, 1933. I wrote a book titled BEER POUR, a satire that touches on the enormous revenue generated by beer sales in modern times.

#Prohibition sustains an unregulated market. When a widely used product remains illegal, production & distribution move beyond regulatory oversight. A legal framework would provide licensing, taxation & quality control, transferring economic power from criminals to the State.
