To cross it without an invitation was a violation of the Great Laws, laws my siblings reveled in breaking. And me… I did not want to break; I wanted to belong. I smoothed the heavy wool of the coat I had stolen from a clothesline, tucked my extra long limbs into the shadows of the fabric, and waited. Inside, I could hear the clink of a teacup. I was at a limit—reaching a level of loneliness where the pain of being ‘other’ finally outweighed the fear of being destroyed. If I stayed with my family, I would wither in the cold silence of my kin, who knew only hunger and never names. I could feel my pulse, a rhythmic thrumming, slowly reaching the frequency of a frantic heart. I was ready to settle for the smallness of a life measured in minutes.

A long long time ago, after a particularly nasty fight with Valentino, Angel had seriously been contemplating stepping out during the extermination. Getting himself double killed. He'd said as much to Val in the throes of their argument. Angel had never seen Val so angry before or since. However the storm subsided by morning and with it came… Fat Nuggets. A little piggy so small, so innocent, so pure that was all Angel's. Fat Nuggets had looked up at him with the most trusting and adoring eyes. Angel vowed to give the little piggy the best life he could afford. Fat good he'd done with that.

Husk sighed, setting down his empty glass. He'd talked with Thomas briefly about how to broach this subject with Angel and Thomas had just straight up told him 'I'm not qualified for this shit,' and ran away with one of his therapy books. So that had been no help. Husk had to do this blind. And for someone who had never cared this much about a romantic relationship before now, he hated how out of touch he felt. He loved Angel and didn't want to hurt him. Didn't want to say something stupid or make incorrect assumptions. And he didn't want to make whatever was going on worse.

This past month had passed in a blur for the two overlords. They talked, argued, made up, and very occasionally — if Husk initiated it — made out. The casino was running as planned except for today. The doors locked, lights off in mourning. Angel planned the entire day with ceremonies and food and drinks to mourn and celebrate the sinner's Hell life. It's what he would've wanted if he were to pass. He knew what it was like to feel owned. That dehumanization. But even Husk admitted that a happy soul was a more productive soul. Giving back some autonomy and dignity would benefit them. This was the first step.

"You!" A fuming Crymini screamed, an accusing finger pointed in his direction. “What have you done?!” It looked like she was about to lunge at him, tears were running down her cheeks. "Mini, no!" Mimzy and Roo appeared by her side and tugged her back. Crymini sobbed, spitting curses at a stunned Angel, fighting against Mimzy and Roo's arms as if wanting to take Angel down. "What did you do?!" Crymini screeched as Roo and Mimzy wrestled her backwards and away from Husk's room.

"Why the long face?" Crackly static voice broke Angel from his thoughts. The spider raised a brow as Alastor materialized from the shadows. Alastor had been surprisingly accommodating about Angel’s last minute request of assistance. Almost too accommodating. And then Angel had gotten at least some semblance of anger out of the radio demon after lamenting about Valentino and Alastor shared similar qualms concerning Vox. The hatred there was extreme and familiar. Angel found comradery in it and grew confident that Alastor would not betray him in this fight against the V’s. He was genuinely excited to tear them apart as well. Alastor grinned at him. "You seem conflicted about something." "Oh?" Angel was not impressed. He'd been playing with Alastor's mind games all day, knowing that the radio demon was aiming to strike a deal and was just trying to sweeten him up to it. But Angel was tired. He just wanted to make it through the extermination. "What do you want?"
