A tall and fresh wood fence with horizontal slats surrounding an absolutely naked expanse of green sod and a few shrubby weeds at the edges. Womp womp.
Same yard present day: with a round patio and walkway, and left to right - lilacs and a Japanese maple with hostas and lupines underneath, hydrangeas, 3 different native species of bleeding hearts (in the back where it’s shady so you can’t really see them, but), ferns and astilbe, likewise), honeysuckle, weigela, a dwarf cherry in bloom, and a snowbell tree down front and center. On the fence you’ll see three Gothic arch window frames painted white and distressed - then sealed and hung up for decor. Between two of them sits a Talavera pottery fountain. There’s also a metal pink flamingo standing under the snowbell tree. I’ve been a busy lady, and I did everything here - even cutting the beds out of the sod and laying new brick edging - except for the actual patio. We hired more qualified people for that.
