The Pacific Madrone (Arbutus menziesii) is native to the western coastal areas of North America, from British Columbia to California. It has flaky bark that shows many colors from pistachio green to cinnamon to red. These were taken in Washington Park near Anacortes and on Chuckanut Drive near Bellingham, Washington.
The Pacific Madrone trees, aka madrona or arbutus, are lovely with their beautiful bark, contorted forms, and bright, yellow, orange, and red berries.
