(Background context: Alyssa is a surrogate that uses magic to help her carry out just about any pregnancy.) Since Alyssa and Melina are in the same mothers' group, Melina's husband Ethan has also become good friends with Alyssa. In fact, back in 2016, he volunteered to help her try and workshop a spell that could make anyone pregnant, regardless of gender. The tests, uh, didn't go very well, and Ethan was forced to carry a mountain of a gut all the way to term. Thankfully, the "babies" were pure magic, so he didn't actually give birth to anything (good thing, too, since Melina was ALSO pregnant at the time) - although he DID experience all the normal pregnancy symptoms. Alyssa, meanwhile, has shelved the idea for the time being.
Ethan once helped Alyssa workshop a spell that could make anyone pregnant, regardless of gender.
Suffice to say, after getting him stuck with a mountain of a gut for nine months, she decided to shelve the idea.
