digital sketch of Lorina, a muscular mermaid, sort of half-sitting, half-lying. She’s propped up on one hand, waving with the other, her pectoral fins mimicking the movements. She’s grinning really wide, showing off her sharp teeth, though it doesn’t look threatening at all since she’s all excited and giddy. Her hair is short-ish, wet snd kelp-like and her ears (that are really just decorative) look a little like coral. She has some larger scales on her forehead and smaller, round ones around her eyes and cheeks, as well as on her chin and shoulders. She also has quite a few scars. The gills are at rhe side of her torso. There is string tied around her neck, arms, waist and tail with shells and trinkets hanging from it. It’s definitely intentional and decorative. The sketch is done in dark blue with only the string in a vibrant orange-red. The shells have an iridescent glow to them. In the top left corner is a closer view of her tail fin that has a tear and some more scarring. in the bottom right corner is the image that inspired rhe design: a multimedia collage of a red string with shells dangling from it. It's from the Friendship Book of Anne Wagner
Today's #30DaysofCharacters character is Lorina, a Nixie and I'm super excited I got to develop a subspecies of my merfolk with her! The inspo comes from a friendship book and the lesbian romance writes itself 🐚 🫧 I'm also onto something with those line colors I think
