Shotokan means 'Hall of Pine Waves". It comes from Funakoshi's pen name: Shoto. His students later called his dojo the house/hall of Shoto, hence "Shoto kan". He was a poet, not just a fighter. A warrior who wrote poetry. That is the Way. #karate #martialarts
