Wine 11.6 is an exciting release to make modding Windows games on Linux simpler Wine, part of what makes Proton run so many Windows games on Linux, just had a very interesting release that will help game modding. The main highlights of Wine 11.6 are: > * Beginnings of a revival of the Android driver. > * DLL load order heuristics to better support game mods. > * More VBScript compatibility fixes. > * Various bug fixes. > The interesting bit here is the change to how DLLs are loaded. Currently with Wine and Proton, you do at times need to do a bit of a workaround for games that need specific DLLs for their mods. With this change now in place and shipped in Wine, it means that if the DLL company name attached is _not_ Microsoft (so a custom one supplied with the mod or game), Wine will automatically use it over the Wine version. Hopefully, the end result will be a number of mods for Windows games on Linux / SteamOS will be easier to run, often out of the box with no extra changes or launch options. And, eventually, Valve will pull the changes into Proton so everyone using it with Steam will see the benefits of it. Wine 11.6 also notes 28 bug fixes for various application and game behaviour. Steam store home page gets a refresh in Beta, plus another Linux SteamRT3 Beta fix Valve have pushed out an overhauled Steam store home page in the latest Steam Client Beta, along with another needed fix for the Linux SteamRT3 Beta. In case you missed the big news for Linux gaming fans - the Linux SteamRT3 Beta brings Steam inside a container with 64bit support! A long time coming, and should improve compatibility across all the many different Linux distributions. As for the new refreshed Steam home page, Valve gave more information in a standalone announcement going over some of the changes. Currently, it only shows in the client, not on the web - but they'll roll that out when it's ready to everyone. It includes higher resolution game art and the store is wider and more responsive too. A similar update to what Valve did for game store pages recently. The main store home page changes: > _**Updates**_ > > * **Overall Design Refresh:** Over the years we've introduced new sections and added new ways for you to discover and learn about games, and this update aims to make the store home feel more cohesive. Each section has a distinct set of tools and information to give users many ways to explore the diverse catalog of games on Steam. A goal of this visual refresh is to strike a balance between providing more consistency in UI elements, while allowing the unique nature of each section to show through. > * **Featured & Recommended:** There is now more detailed information highlighting the reason a game is being recommended to you; plus a user review round-up. When hovering over a game's cover art, the game's micro-trailer will play for a quick peak at the action. We also added a sneak-peek of the adjacent games in the carousel. > * **Option to disable:** Micro-trailer hovers and animated marketing assets can be disabled in Store Settings for users with motion sensitivity. > * **Discounts & Events: **Now uses**** larger game artwork. > * **Updated Discovery Queue:** A quicker way to browse titles in your Discovery Queue without leaving the page. > * **Better Hover States:** A short description is presented along with other relevant information. The UI is updated to provide better contrast and legibility. > * **Infinite Scroll:** Refreshed design to bring this part of the store home in line visually and functionally with the rest of the sections. > > > _**New Sections**_ > > * **Your Wishlist:** This section, as you might guess, features games on discount from your wishlist. > * **DLC for Your Games:** This section will feature DLC that's on discount for games from your library. > From the main Steam Client changelog: > **General** > > * Enabled the refreshed Steam Store home page > > > > **Linux SteamRT3 Beta** > > * Fixed Steam tray icon not showing. > > > > **Big Picture** > > * Updated the Store main menu option to navigate to the Steam Store home page instead of the Great On Deck hub > > > > **Cloud** > > * Fixed an issue which could lead to data loss when uninstalling, reinstalling, and playing a game without restarting the client in between > > What do you think to the changes? Let us know in the comments! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Raspberry Pi prices rise again, along with a new 3GB Raspberry Pi 4 announced Raspberry Pi have revealed even more price rises for their hardware, as the AI surge continues and it may be a tough pill to swallow. They've also announced a new model, the 3GB Raspberry Pi 4 which is very real despite the April Fools date it was announced on for $83.75 / £80.40. Some products are not getting an increased price though. They're still holding the price of the Raspberry Pi 400 with 4GB of memory, and the 1GB and 2GB variants of Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5. Everything else is going up though. The price increases they listed are: **Product** | **Density** | **Price increase** ---|---|--- Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 | 4GB | $25 Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 | 8GB | $50 Raspberry Pi 5 | 16GB | $100 Raspberry Pi 500 (unit only and kit) | | $50 Raspberry Pi 500+ unit only | | $150 Raspberry Pi 500+ kit | | $150 Compute Module 4 and 4S | 1GB | $11.25 Compute Module 4, 4S, 5 | 2GB | $12.50 Compute Module 4, 4S, 5 | 4GB | $25 Compute Module 4, 4S, 5 | 8GB | $50 Compute Module 5 | 16GB | $100 Development Kit for Compute Module 5 | | $25 Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2 | | $50 They did say prices will come down once the AI bubble bursts, whenever that happens to be. Heretic II has a new reverse-engineered source port A lot of classic games have received source ports over the years, and now it's time for Heretic II with Heretic2R bringing some enhancements. Right now it seems to run with Proton on Linux, but may need some work to get a Native Linux build going. This is one I missed from my earlier gaming years, being only _10_ at the time it was originally released so it's nice to see it receive some love from the community that I might be able to play it on a modern system soon. From reading up on it, this one was a little more unusual with it changing the series into third-person and it was considered a commercial failure. Features of Heretic2R include: > * Widescreen support (with automatic HUD scaling). > * Rendering framerate decoupled from network packets sending rate (with theoretical maximum of 1000 FPS). > * OGG music playback. > * Most of special effects are updated at rendering framerate (instead of 20 FPS). > * Improved map loading times. > * Lots of cosmetic improvements (so the game plays as you remember it, not as it actually played). > * Many bugfixes. > YouTube videos require cookies, you must accept their cookies to view. View cookie preferences. Accept Cookies & Show Direct Link You can find it on GitHub under the GPL license. You do need a copy of the Heretic II data files from the game to work with this. [Payments Arriving] Evolve Bank & Trust Data Breach + $20 Settlement Update 3/30/26: Payments are starting to hit accounts for ~$28. Hat tip to reader Dave Update 7/18/25: There’s now a class settlement with an estimated flat payment of $20. Settlement link (ht Bockrr and Acid Bath) Original Post 7/1/24: Evolve Bank & Trust (financial institution that is used by many fintech startups) has announced that it suffered a data breach. Systems were compromised in late May 2024 and Evolve Bank & Trust states that there was no new unauthorized activity since May 31, 2024. They also state the current evidence shows the following: * This was a ransomware attack by the criminal organization, LockBit. * They appear to have gained access to our systems when an employee inadvertently clicked on a malicious internet link. * There is no evidence that the criminals accessed any customer funds, but it appears they did access and download customer information from our databases and a file share during periods in February and May. * The threat actor also encrypted some data within our environment. However, we have backups available and experienced limited data loss and impact on our operations. * We refused to pay the ransom demanded by the threat actor. As a result, they leaked the data they downloaded. They also mistakenly attributed the source of the data to the Federal Reserve Bank. Unfortunately as they provide a lot of behind the scenes work for other financial companies it’s difficult to untangle all of the customers that were affected. Here is a partial list (with apologies for any inaccuracies): Wise, Juno, Affirm, Airwallex, Alloy, Bond, Branch, Dave, EarnIn, Marqeta, Melio, Mercury, PrizePool, Step, Stripe, TabaPay, Bilt.

Ubuntu MATE seeking maintainers as the creator looks to move on Developer Martin Wimpress has announced their intention to move on from Ubuntu MATE, and so the distribution is looking for fresh faces. What is Ubuntu MATE? It's an official flavour of the Ubuntu family. Using Ubuntu as the base of the packages but it comes with the retro MATE desktop environment which is the continuation of the old GNOME 2. In a post on the official Ubuntu Discourse forum, Wimpress said: > Hey > > I created Ubuntu MATE back in 2014, and my involvement in the project is coming to a close. Perhaps you can help? > > As another development cycle passes, I find myself lacking the time I once had to work on Ubuntu MATE. And, to be frank, I don’t have the passion for the project that I once had. When I have time to tinker, my interests are elsewhere. > > With that in mind, I’m interested in handing over the reins to contributors who do have the time and energy to work on Ubuntu MATE. > > If you are an Ubuntu contributor with experience maintaining packages in the Ubuntu archive and are interested in working on Ubuntu MATE, let me know. I’ve posted a similar message in the Ubuntu Flavours channel on Matrix. > > Looking forward to hearing from passionate Ubuntu contributors Hopefully some other developers will step forwards to continue it on. If not, there's always Linux Mint that has a MATE edition if the old desktop style is really what you're after. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Beta released with GNOME 50, Linux kernel 7.0, Mesa 26 The next major release of Ubuntu is almost here with a Beta now available for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Long-term support) for testing and bug-hunting. This Beta release includes Ubuntu Desktop, Server, WSL, Cloud products, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Unity, and Xubuntu. Steam Client Beta bring fixes for the new Linux SteamRT3 Beta Valve released a fresh update to the Steam Client Beta, bringing a few useful bug fixes and more work on the new Linux SteamRT3 Beta. For those that missed it the Linux SteamRT3 Beta is a new container system that the Steam Client can run inside on Linux systems, much the same as how games run inside the Steam Linux Runtime. And, it comes with 64bit support finally too. It's a bit buggy right now, but Valve have already begun improving it. The full list of changes for March 25th: > **Big Picture** > > * Fixed an issue with the "use the gamepadui overlay when a controller is connected" mode where desktopUI chat windows could open and block the Big Picture overlay. > > > **Game Recording** > > * Fixed the instant clip shortcut not working for non-Steam games when using a gamepad. > > > **Linux SteamRT3 Beta** > > * Fixed games failing to start when when some custom launch options are specified. > * Fixed client startup loop that could occur in rare circumstance when Steam config directory is in an unexpected state. > > > **Remote Play** > > * Fixed launching with surround sound audio when streaming a game from the library. > * Added support for streaming 7.1 surround sound. > Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Proton Experimental brings fixes for Crimson Desert, Steam Overlay with EA games, Death Stranding 2 Valve just pushed out another excellent update for Proton Experimental - further improving Windows games running on Linux / SteamOS. What is Proton Experimental? It's like a staging ground for faster updates to their Windows -> Linux compatibility layer for gaming. There's a bit less testing, and sometimes there's breakages. But eventually after a while all the updates get rolled out to a numbered Proton version like the latest stable version being Proton 10.0-4. See more about all the Proton versions in the GamingOnLinux guide. Noted to be now playable include: * Blaite * Don't Die Dateless, Dummy! Other fixes and improvements include: * Fixed Rei and the Floating City not being playable with gamescope. * Fixed intro video playback in Crimson Desert - previously available via Proton Hotfix. * Fixed Steam Overlay not working correctly with many EA games. * Fixed mouse movement behavior in Call of Duty 2. * Improved emoji support in Idle Trillionaire. * Disabled Xalia for DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH as the launcher has native controller support. * Fixed rendering issue in launcher of DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. * Fixed high CPU usage of DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. * Fixed Proton Experimental regression that caused Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to crash on launch. Fixed experimental-10 Regressions: * Fixed DLSS support in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. _Source:Valve GitHub_ _Pictured - Death Stranding 2 on Linux (Fedora KDE)_ If you already have it downloaded it will show as an update in your Steam Downloads, otherwise you can search for it to install it manually. To use Proton Experimental, go into the game Properties and into the Compatibility menu. Tick the box at the top, then select Proton Experimental from the drop-down box that appears and it will be set for that specific game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
