Sunlight shines through a section of white great cherry blossoms on my neighbor’s tree. The blossoms are backlit, as are some of the deep green, new leaves. The backlighting gives the white blossoms interesting layers of shade.

This is about 5 centimeters wide of a fallen stick in the grass. The center is covered in a white rim-disc lichen with disc shaped growths that have sort of light yellow-orange centers, kind of like creamsicle color. There’s a dead, brown leaf in the left of the stick, and a combination of deep green liverworts and mosses growing from the right and top sides of the stick. Tiny dew drops hang from the tips of the grass blades in the lower left corner.

Looking up at the cherry blossom canopy along our state capital mall. Pastel paper lanterns are strung through the canopy. It’s a profusion of light pink blossoms, and the paper lanterns are sky blue, chartreuse, lavender, dark pink, and a light pink that almost matches the blossoms. The brown trunks and branches hold it all together from the bottom.

A spectacular sunrise over the Willamette Valley. The sun is just peeking over the Cascades on the lower right horizon. Tall Douglas fir trees are silhouetted on the right and left edges. Mt. Hood’s conical silhouette also peeks out on the lower left. But the sky is the real show. It’s deep blue on the top, and the sun has turned ragged clouds to shades of vibrant gold against the blue and purple of the darker clouds. Oh, the drama! The spectacle!

A spectacular star magnolia blossom is one of the first to open on this tree. The petals are mostly white on the upper side, but they tie pinkish on the edges. The undersides of the petals are mostly a deep, magenta pink. In the background, lots of unopened buds are getting ready to open against a deep blue sky.

A stick covered in a sort of tube lichen lies on the mossy forest floor. The moss has fluffy green fingers reaching toward the pale sea-green collection of tubes that give way to varying sizes of caramel-colored cup-like reproductive structures.
