Large and very hairy bee on a purple flower with dark tail section, reddish-orange rump, yellow mid-section and yellowish-grey head and upper thorax
First gorgeous #BumbleBee of the season for me and a definite mood lifter! I think this one is an orange-rumped bumble bee (Bombus melanopygus) which is native to western North America. It is foraging on a garden pansy at the local garden store. #HopeBC #SignsOfSpring #BugSky 🌿

Greater Wood‑rush (Luzula sylvatica) has soft hairs along its leaf margins which are stiff and upright. Our native bluebell (Hyacinthoides non‑scripta) has hairless, soft & floppy leaves that only appear in Spring (wood rush leaves are present all year round). #SignsofSpring
