Bayverse characters rarely get this kind of close treatment. This is certainly the first time I've seen April's boss, Bernadette in a fic! You flesh out her inner life so completely. Learning that she's just as hard on herself as she is on her newsroom, I find myself forgiving her for her brusque treatment of April and her crazy-talk of turtles. Seeing her put her money where her mouth is--going right up to the edge of the platform of a runaway train?! She's brave! Seeing her keep her wits about her when she's trapped under 15 tons of station and 300lbs of mutant turtle? She's steady under pressure! Seeing her slowly trauma-bond with a heroic and genuine young man? I fall in love with her. Watching her mentally adopt Donatello???? My heart explodes! She comforts him. She supports him (with bricks). She reassures him with her (not-quite) last breath. And even when the dust has cleared... she guards the family he loves. Thank you for introducing her to me. Thank you for letting her love Donatello. Thank you for crafting this story. --Kya <3"

It's sassy, quippy, and intelligent--a perfect match for Donatello's cynical but earnest POV. And the couple! Apritello told in peeks through a keyhole. Tiny vignettes of reasons for them to fall in love with each other, over and over again. The bee, the moview, the personalized gun, the trauma-bonding, the choosing each other and choosing hope every time. It makes me fall in love with them, too.
