Three panels going across the page. In the first, Man-Wolf is pulling up rocks with his bare hands. He explains: “And since my mind-probes met with no response, my only hope was to make a gigantic transmission station whose signals would span the great beyond! I began quarrying and shaping a huge piece of purest CRYSTAL!” In the second panel, we see his hands making a coil of copper wire. He continues “Then, I mined copper — and spun WIRE from it!” Next in the third panel we see Man-Wolf crouching next to a circular vat sunk into the ground and filled with liquid. A copper beam connects the vat to another similar one next to it. He continues “Next with ALKALINE POOLS and more copper, I created a series of simple but massive BATTERIES! I harnessed the power of an ENTIRE WORLD and bent it to my bidding!”
Now in a wide panel, we see the entire apparatus assembled: the battery, the copper coil, the crystal, and a large circular dish with what looks like a needle pointing out of its center. Man-Wolf explains further “I built a crystal transmitter/receiver that spanned the globe— that could beam a broad-range radio signal to [a] location light-years away! Even so, you say MY signals are barely strong enough to pick up, without added amplification at your end! Strange, indeed, since I receive YOUR broadcasts quite clearly!” [This detail will become important later in the story.]
