Closeup of a herb robert flower. This beautiful little pink wildflower -about the size of a thumbnail- is a wild member of the geranium family. Its 5 petals look almost as of they have been painted in watercolours, with a deep pink having “brushstrokes” of white fanning out from each petal’s narrow centre, almost to their rounded edge. Its fine stamens stand up in the centre, with red & yellow tips. Both its stem & geranium like leaves are covered in fine hairs. These not only discourage insects etal from nibbling on it, but provide a kind of insulation as well. amb caught this lovely wildflower with the Sunlight shining on it. That light not only brings out the flower’s beautiful pink, but shows the hairs on its stem & foliage. If “geranium like” isn’t a helpful enough description of its leaves, all I can say is that each leaf splays out tightly in 3 directions, a bit like three multi-fingered hands joined at the stem end. I don’t know how herb robert got its name, but the lack of capital letters is actually its proper spelling. It’s a pretty splash of white-streaked pink amidst a plentiful bunch of much larger leaves. My first break spot at 1,5km. There's firepit which was still smoking so someone had been there, likely frying some sausages or something. Weather was amazaing for it.
Dried swamp where trail crosses it. There's watery spots and melting snow here and there.
