Round-bodied fly, covered in fluffy, glossy, chestnut brown hair - sitting in the sunshine on a vividly green leaf with spindly legs, and wings outstretched. Fly's head is small, with globular compound eyes (touching at the middle, indicating a male) - and a long, dark, pointed proboscis points straight outwards from the head.
Another, similar bee-fly - basking above some sunlit soil. Eyes this time are separated by a band of fluff - indicating a female.
Been busy - but with the spring sunshine this week? Bugs galore! And I finally managed to get some photos of bee-flies - Bombylius major.
Cute, round and fluffy? Of *course* they're parasites - lobbing eggs into the nests of solitary bees...
