But that’s the idea behind a proposed partnership between a German firm and a local timber business to build a plant that would convert woody biomass into sustainable aviation fuel. “This facility would use 100-year-old technology known as gasification and Fischer–Tropsch,” said Bill Johnson of Johnson Timbers, the local partner on the project. “We actually worked with this technology in the past during both the Bush and Obama administrations and built a pilot plant utilizing similar technologies down in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, using biomass from Wisconsin.” To help land it, the state Legislature passed an incentive package called the Forestry Revitalization Bill, signed into law last week by Gov. OCBC aims to support 12,000 SMEs with sustainable financing by 2028 SINGAPORE - OCBC Bank is ramping up its green efforts with a new target to support 12,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through sustainable financing. These SMEs operate in four core markets, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia, the bank said on April 7. Its new target aligns with a new corporate strategy, announced by OCBC chief executive Tan Teck Long during the bank’s earnings briefing in February, which includes continuing support for green transition. The new target builds on momentum in the bank’s sustainable finance loan portfolio for SMEs. OCBC has provided sustainable financing to 5,000 SMEs as of end-2025. In 2025, the number of SMEs supported with sustainable financing rose 34 per cent, while total commitments grew about 40 per cent. The number of sustainability-linked loans to SMEs more than doubled, signalling growing readiness among SMEs to adopt measurable sustainability targets. Over 70 per cent of these borrowers are small SMEs with less than 25 employees, in sectors such as building and construction, manufacturing as well as transport and logistics. (KTVZ) -- At Worthy Brewing in Bend, sustainability is showing up in both the brewery’s hops and the produce grown for its menu. The brewery says many of its hops come from Indy Hops, an Oregon-based company that works with growers using environmentally responsible practices. Some of those hops are certified through Salmon-Safe, a program that recognizes farms and other land uses that adopt science-based methods to reduce pollution, manage stormwater and improve water quality to help protect salmon habitat. Salmon-Safe also says its beer-related program highlights craft brewers sourcing certified hops and malts from Northwest watersheds. “We primarily use a lot of hops grown here in the state of Oregon. Even routine tasks such as image generation can be energy-intensive.
